Farewell, Lala, we hardly knew you. Can’t wait to see what approval-music-only, walled garden replacement emerges to replace you. 🙁
Lala, the fairly new service that was awesome enough to make it into our Hive Five for best music streaming services, is finally going to meet its maker. It seems that Apple, who bought Lala at the end of last year, has finally seen fit to shut down the young but increasingly popular service.
Users will still be able to access and play all their music until that point, and all the songs they bought and downloaded will still be viable. You can’t make new purchases at this point, but if you have an outstanding balance, you can use that to buy mp3s or receive iTunes store credit for anything left on the day Lala shuts down. Whether this all means a great music streaming addition to iTunes or not, no one knows for sure—but May 31 certainly will be a sad day for the people that lose their favorite streaming service.
